Ideas for 314

It's now time for me to come up with a new rule proposal and us to discuss it. Unfortunately I need more than two minutes at a computer to do this and that won't happen until tomorrow (I'm stuck in a car all day today after a very intense week of work). I also have some catching up to do so don't have any firm ideas as yet as to what rule needs to be proposed.

So I'm throwing the floor open. What rule do you think I should propose? Give me some good reasons and I'll strongly consider proposing it. I'm not asking you all to do my work for me, I have some half baked ideas of my own which I should figure out on my ride home but good ideas from the floor could be a better way to go.

I also want to apologise for the really bad timing. I'll be completely back on form from tomorrow and was hoping that things would stretch out long enough for my turn to happen then. If it helps any I'm just finishing off generating the first real data for my PhD project, which after two and a half years comes as somewhat of a relief.

I think you were quite concerned about things going to fast? I suggest you modify 311, with the following language added:

Unless otherwise demanded by an immutable rule, no game decision shall require more than a two-thirds majority of players in agreement (rounded up) to take effect, or take less than 48 hours, including the adoption of rule changes and judicial overrides. This rule shall take precedence over all mutable rules.

This would cover all game eventualities in one easy go, and mean we always wait at least that much time for any voting action.

Your vote is the last one I am forced to vote yes to, so this could be your golden opportunity to get these time limits in place Shelleycat.

There's no S in shelleycat.

no game decision shall ... take less than 48 hours

This sounds dangerous.

I'm not at all worried about capitilisation. Put the big and small letters wherever you like.

How about a rule about new players joining? As described over here.

I think AAA wants 311 modified so it no longer takes precedence over 313...

I'd support defining a process whereby players join, vet, and become registered players; then possibly idle out, or voluntarily withdraw from the player list temporarily or from the game permanently.

I've thought about this and I like the idea of regulating new players joining. There are a few reasons:

* The 48 hour abstention removes a lot of the problems with a player not participating. Instead of holding things up they just abstain again and again. But I'll add something about if you abstain too many times in a row then you're removed.
* I've seen a few new account names pop up recently and new players are obviously trying to join (e.g. SubWolf) so this is something that's actually happening, not a hypothetical for the future.
* The player numbers have dropped a lot and we kind of know each other now (I recognise all the usernames by now anyway heh). Some new blood could be interesting.
* The two thirds majority thing means rules are being passed now so hopefully the game is more interesting, so new players are more likely to stick around.

I'm going to read over the current rule set and formulate a rule. This shouldn't take long, I want to keep it pretty simple so that new players can easily join. I'll start a new thread for discussion since right now you don't really have anything to discuss and hopefully I can get it up for voting this evening or tomorrow morning, giving us a new task to start the week with.

I've put the new rule discussion up over here. I know this is messy and am sorry for that. I would much rather have been organised and orderly from the start.
