Resignation

Sorry if I've held things up in the last few days. I've gotten very busy lately, and frankly am not enjoying this as much as I had hoped, so I am out. Have a good nomic y'all!

The spin-off game Spork Nomic is still moving along briskly and new players wouldn't be at a large disadvantage.

AFAIK everyone there is active here, so this isn't a solicitation to siphon off players.

Spork's turning out to be pretty fun -- just about the only thing I'd change would be the need for a few more players and voices. I was actually thinking about trying to pass a "population growth" incentive for people who could get new players in when my turn comes 'round again...

I think the key in Spork was the voting time limit. That worked really well. *hint*

I tried looking at spork but it seems that without joining a lot of the content isn't viewable. So I don't really know what's been going on over there. Instead all I see is a bunch of stupid rules about wearing fake jewellery which really put me off. The downside to joining a game partway through is that you're stuck with all the crap that accumulated before you started and have to fit in with the game culture as it has developed, and I don't see anything in the rules over there so far that I'm really interested in playing with. (note: this is not a criticism, it looks like you're all having fun and I'm cool with that. There's nothing at all wrong with how your game is going and my opinion isn't at all important).

I agree that time limits would really help, right now there's to much tension between those who only care about their own participation ("I've voted already, let's move on now") and those of us who can't be here every minute of the day and aren't around at the same time as the first group. I find the attitude of the first group kind of selfish but I'm sure that they find people like me a drag.

If we had some kind of clear idea as to how much participation was expected of players then people would either step up and do that or leave. We need to put the responsibility onto each player to manage their own participation to fit the group ideals, but we also need to be clear about what those ideals actually are.

As an example knowing that there's votes coming up often and only two days to vote on each would make me check every two days at least, or drop out if I don't want to do that. Or the other way round, knowing that every vote is going to take two days regardless of how fast I vote would make me relax and be ready to wait, and maybe even hold back and think a bit about my vote.

If only being here every second day means the majority don't want to wait then be upfront about that and just say so. Put it in big letters on the front page even. The current muddied state where people can participate as much or as little as they like but will also get bitched at and resented for 'not doing it right' rather sucks.

This may not be the correct place to put this in which case I apologise and please point others towards it. Typing really hurts right now and I need to stop.
