322 Preview

I know it's early, but we've been having serious difficulty in getting things passed and I'm hoping an early conversation will work.

I'd like in 322 to establish "points" as the currency of MeFiNo, fully transferable. This would help mitigate the "always voting NO for points" issue as people could be bribed by other players to vote YES. I think it would also add a nice dash of spice to the game.

As a side issue, I'd like to amp up the points required to win to 300 and inflate the currency, so to speak, by giving people money to bribe with.

I'm looking now for input on implementation.

PROPOSAL TEXT:

321/322. Currency

Points are fully transferable. Any player may transfer any number of points to any other player at any time by posting a notice to that effect in the Point Transfer Forum established for this purpose, provided said point transfer would not put the receiving player within eleven or fewer points from the victory condition. Transfers may be conditional upon the completion of specified act(s) by the receiving party; in case of conflict, the question will be decided by the player who has most recently concluded their turn who is not a party to the transfer.

The total number of points required to win the game will be raised to 300.

All active players will immediately receive 100 points.

So, in short, my proposal would do the following:

* Define points as transferable currency.
* Up the required number of points for victory to 300.
* Inject some additional currency into the game in order to facilitate transfers.
* Place limits on all this, as the discussion in the thread deems necessary.

This is something I could get behind with a massive and exclusive one-off bribe.

#

AAA, I can offer you at least two of those adjectives.

#

I think this idea is very interesting.

#

Yes, bribery is what makes government go round.

#

I will not accept a bribe that is a) non-huge b) significantly larger than anyone else's.

#

needs another "not" in b)

#

Why not just eliminate points given for voting no entirely?

#

Yeah, I've got to say, this seems fun, which I love, but I'd prefer to just see an elimination of points for voting no. I guess I'd vote for either one, but I feel like that would be conducive to more fun in the long-term, as I suspect the bribery won't affect the outcome much.

#

There's nothing stopping us from eliminating the voting no bonus, if that's what people want to do, but I'm attached to this for 322.

There's nothing stopping us from eliminating the voting no bonus

Ah, I think the "no" votes of me and my people are stopping us from doing this.

#

Your people and mine are going to rumble, AAA.

(I am happy with this for 322)

Why not have the judge decide on the legality of a point transfer? Unless he/she is the one receiving points, that is.

#

Also, this rule's point limit in its current form will be superseded by rule 208, since it is lower ordinally.

And... you should reword the last part of the rule to make it very clear that this point infusion is a one-off deal that occurs only immediately following the passage of the proposal.

#

bsp, good points both.

"the question will be decided by the player who has most recently concluded their turn who is not a party to the transfer." This *is* the current judge, unless they're a party to the transaction.

This proposal takes precedence over all mutable rules.

I think I'll probably phrase this as a revision of 208 when I post it for voting to double-avoid the precedence issue -- no reason to keep 208 when this supersedes it entirely.

#

I'm afraid I will have to vote against this, as per my previously stated requirements upthread.
