Ok, so I figured I'd sign up for this game and show up once or twice a day to read a few comments, maybe argue a bit, do some voting, and occasionally make my proposals. Fifteen, maybe thirty minutes, tops (unless I get caught up in some debate). I had a busy day today and didn't get to even check my e-mail until tonight. I signed up at the site and got blown away by a hundred or so comments scattered throughout 5 or so forum articles. We seem to be simultaneously adhering to some of the original rules by the letter and ignoring others as suits convenience (instead of starting with a different rule set). A proposal has been suggested, partly voted on, declared a winner, the voting declared premature, an amendment has been proposed (one with a ridiculous timescale built into it), the voting method has been changed and not declared in any obvious space, a different amendment has been adopted via a comment hidden deep in the stack, and voting was declared open.
I'm sorry, but there's no way in hell I can keep up with this.
So I'm going to have to forfeit and drop out here.
Sorry to screw things up, but this is just a bit too much for me to handle right now.
I'm not quitting, but I think ErWenn has a good point.
There's a very explicit rule set. It even includes a way of adding rules. If you want the game to work a specific way let's use that ruleset to modify the game. That's the whole damn point. Yes it makes the game go slow. Nomic is a slow game. That's the fun in it.
Maybe we chose a bad starting ruleset? It's still early enough I bet people could agree to a mulligan.
If you've got issues with a proposal, or find that people are violating the rules, I suggest you post something about it in the relevant thread. The point of the game is negotiation and stuff.
Uhhh, invoking 113 removes your status as a "player" and thus has no bearing on 105. Sorry to see you go, but it really doesn't "screw anything up."
notJim: I just feel the game sort of started rushed. That's all.
You're tellin' me! I've never played before in my life, and I had to propose the first rule!
ErWenn - You can participate as much as you want. All that is asked is that you vote on each proposal.
notJim - I thought your last proposal was a good one.
I agree with the first quoted sentence, which appears to preclude the second.
