Visions of Hope Seen After Crash; "We Will Rebound" Says Idea Trader
The events of the day seem to have humbled all within the BlogShares community. Though idea prices have crashed, and the currency has been revalued, the future still seems bright. Investors are secure in the fact that their rankings have not changed, they just have a bunch of empty space in their once overflowing cash vaults. In the meantime, trading has been restored for the market and life goes on. "We will overcome this day, we will rebound", said an unidentified market trader, "Black Friday will not get us down."
----------
CURRENCY RE-VALUED IN AFTERMATH OF MARKET CHAOS
Moments ago Chairman Purpleledger announced a major re-valuation of the blogdollar to compensate for the devestating market crash earlier today. The currency has been re-valued on a 1 for 10,000 ratio. Thus, if you had B$1,000,000,000.00 in cash assets prior to the re-valuation, you now have B$100,000.00.

IDEAS MARKET CRASHED! TRILLIONS LOST IN HUGE PRICE COLLAPSE!
Investors are said to have looks of utter disbelief as all idea values within the market have bottomed out. Some estimations show that the market has lost over 99% of its value. An announcement from the BlogShares Treasury Chairman, Johansen Purpleledger, is expected soon. Some are already calling today "Black Friday".
----------
MAJOR PRICE FLUCTUATIONS SEEN IN IDEAS MARKET; TRADING SUSPENDED
After opening strong in early hours trading, major price fluctuations have begun to have an effect on the market. Investors have been selling strongly all morning in anticipation of a market crash. Idea values continue to plummet. The BlogShares Treasury Board has suspended all market trading effective immediately in an attempt to control the price drops. Developing...

it's a spammity calamity!!!

Most markets do not shut down because of market crashes. They keep right on going in hopes investors will start to reinvest and buy as prices stabalize.
One would suspect the gooberments hand in protecting it's own monetary standard by the way the markets have been shut down not allowing legal trades during this crash.

Ummm, OK, so my ideas crashed ... why did my cash balance collapse, too ?
Posted by: Anonymous | November 25, 2005 03:31 PM
Crap, my cash balance crashed too... If the ideas value crashed, shouldn't be the my total idea value which plummetting down?
Posted by: Anonymous | November 25, 2005 03:37 PM
This is essentially just a currency exchange without a spread. This has the interesting side effect of increasing the starting potential of new players (from here on out).
Posted by: jim | November 25, 2005 03:45 PM
hmmmm i lost most of my cash balance too :( .
i guess its all over then :(
Posted by: Anonymous | November 25, 2005 03:47 PM
Well, but we, the middle players, are the more affected in all this, are we going to be compensated somehow?
Posted by: SpaceLord | November 25, 2005 03:54 PM
I guess I'm having trouble understanding what programming change went into effect and was it ever discussed as a possibility. In other words, someone HAD to know this was going to happen, therefore did that EFFECT how they traded over the last 24 to 48 hours?
Black Friday in 1929 led to the depression. BUT the MONITARY system was NOT DEvalued. I can understand the crash of idea prices, but why COUPLE that with a 10,000 X
loss of CASH BALANCE?
It is a bit disingenous to suggest that will help stop a freefall in the market. In fact it would have the opposite effect, since I no longer have the cash to go in and support prices.
As Ricky Ricardo used to say. "Somebody gotta lotta
'splaining to do".......
Last but not least, revaluation and everything else aside,
why the change in RANK if this was done evenly across
IDEAS and CASH BALANCE?
So my questions are "What did they know and when did
they know it???????
Posted by: Renaissance Man | November 25, 2005 04:26 PM
Yes it does seem they destroyed the entire reasoning behind keeping a cash safety net just in case something like this did occur. And yet stock prices haven't been touched at all. Gonna make it very hard for most of us to restructure any of the higher priced blogs now.
Posted by: IXLNXS | November 25, 2005 04:36 PM
Well, I guess it is time to stop playing this game. As if the constant server slowness wasn't bad enough, someone decided to erase all that we've built up. I guess the joke is on those of us who payed for "premium memberships." Oh well.

hurt!, yes its hurt me alot
Posted by: !secandri | November 25, 2005 05:04 PM
Guys/Gals:
Relax. All is well in the world. Nothing has changed except a decimal place shift. The rankings haven't changed dramatically, it just took a few moments for the system to update all player accounts. This should all be back to normal.
Since the mid-range priced blogs now offer some relative profits (much better compared to net worth when compared to the top blogs prior to the crash), more players can use blogs to increase net worth with less contention for the top blogs to do so. No math has changed, it all works just as before.

As VJack said, "As if the constant server slowness wasn't bad enough, someone decided to erase all that we've built up. I guess the joke is on those of us who payed for "premium memberships."
Gee I just don't know now. This requires some thought.

Geez! I just got home from the second of 2 searches in as many days and when I pulled up my account I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I'm standing on the window ledge trying to put my jumbled brain back together.
Oh well! Game it is and this is certain to make life more interesting. I guess I'll regroup and reaccess, but first for some more turkey and mashed tators. Being out in the middle of the night in 19 degree temps, 2 nights in a row, looking for lost people has made me verrry hungry!
I might get like Trollie and start BBQing anything in sight. Kitty ;)

Don't jump Kitty. Don't jump. Come back in off the ledge and let's talk. Or maybe it is bad for you. Did you buy a premium membership? That would suck.

this is screwed up,I had 45,000,000,000 in ideas.the majority of my balance. Now I have 4,500,000 in assets with a handful of stocks. After selling the shares I now have a 10,000,000 cash position. Can't wait to see my rank now.

I don't have to worry about transaction limits. Anyway, since everyone is affected I'll just try to forget all those little 0's that disappeared.
Hey, and thanks for the nice comment on my blog! Kitty ;)

help ! my cash balance !!!!
Posted by: Antony | November 26, 2005 08:48 AM
What you don't understand is that this is the same thing as your old balances. The zero's didn't matter. If they were taken away from everyone, it means the same thing.
Posted by: Python | November 26, 2005 09:29 AM
I never recovered from the last 'tweak' months back. Damn glad I didn't renew my subscription - this is the final nail in the coffin. When people are paying money to play a game, do not keep shifting the goalposts.
Posted by: demonsurfer | November 26, 2005 09:52 AM
Next time you guys are asking for ideas on how to improve Blog$hares and I suggest random market crashes, kick me in the nuts.
Posted by: mcf | November 26, 2005 11:48 AM
Ugh. You people still don't understand. You still get the same benefits of Premium Membership, the zero's were meaningless. They were taken from everybody, which just cancels out everything else. So what, the shares market is now a little more important. Big deal. If you're going to cry and leave about it, then you don't belong here anyway. Maybe you don't have a T anymore. But everyone who was at the same level, lost it too. And those that had a Q now have a T. I'm in Junior High, and even I can understand this.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 26, 2005 03:01 PM
Not fair, coz those people who keep B$ in shares are not affected as much as those who keep B$ in ideas. Worse, now most of the lower value-ideas value is plummetting to $0.1. Or... perhaps all will be lowered as well?
Posted by: Anonymous | November 26, 2005 03:03 PM
So, what happens to all those missions, the "I will pay B$1B for a link" and so on. Are those missions cancelled? Did they all automatically get knocked down by a few zeros?
Posted by: Ed Minchau | November 26, 2005 06:35 PM
I was undecided until I read these comments. Now that I see that Helena is opposed, I am strongly in favor of the change. In fact, I think we should have everything devalued even more to raise her level of displeasure.
Posted by: r u serious | November 26, 2005 08:01 PM
The point was for it to have affected everyone equally,as for this happening it failed to do so.Players with large idea holdings have been penalized.Players who had a large sum tied up in shares made
10000 X when the devaluation occurred.
Rank has therefore been DRASTICALLY changed. When the change occurred,it should have occurred accross the board to have not affected rank.EVERYTHING should have been devalued. The only FAIR thing to
do would have been that.I enjoy the challenge of RANK.Could care less about the 000s.I will continue playing but would like to know UPFRONT what the rules are.
(ie Are Random Market Crashes In Effect)

Does no one else remember that this is a GAME??!!
Minerva
Posted by: Minerva | November 27, 2005 06:51 AM
Yes I remember it is a game, but the rules were "changed without notice".That is why I'm upset.Being a middle class player in this "game" and being lowered to a lower
rank is upsetting. There should have been warning in the "Quick News Box" that something was up.

wish I could have sold forward my ideas...
Posted by: noize | November 27, 2005 12:34 PM
I was preparing an spanish tutorial... there i was going to say that the real thing about blogshares, was the ideas market, just as i sold my almost 100m B$ in shares, to invest in ideas market... so i lost lots of money therefore... That's what sounds unfair for a middle player like me...
The crashes are cool, but not even on 29' so much ppl lost so much...
Posted by: SpaceLord | November 27, 2005 02:57 PM
WEll, it was more than 200m in shares... so its more money thought.. Lol
Posted by: SpaceLord | November 27, 2005 02:59 PM
Huh,after busting my a** all day I seemed
to have recovered somewhat.I had 31 artefacts and $10,000,000
to play with. Now I have 150,000,000+ in assests and almost 200 artefacts.
I'm still holding my breath to see what my new rank will be.Keep ya posted.lol
Posted by: cheewacheewa | November 27, 2005 05:11 PM
I was suprised when my piss-poor $130 million in shares suddenly became my nest egg, and my $90 billion in ideas and cash suddenly became $1 million.
Now, when will they add in the ability to sell short? You could have made quadrillions selling short on that ideas crash. Crazy money.
(Of course - once your currency crashed you would have been back to square one)

bah! $40+ trillion gone in a puff of electrons. now only worth a measly $4 billion.

There must be a way to put captcha images on pages like these. Oh My just look at all the spam. Seems like artefacts are the way to go when cash is low, at any rate. Get 'em while you can. I have been.

total worth is now $477,086,194.67 with
259 atefacts. And I have managed to massively corner the market on one industry. The idea market for it is already starting to pick up.

It's about time transaction fees should be removed to make ideas market trading more interesting!
Posted by: Laila* | November 30, 2005 09:25 PM
Wow, hadn't signed in a while.. had a negative cash balance (bad blog trade) and they didn't seem to remove the zero's from that. I was ranked in the mid 100's, now 30173. Ouch. Seems M.Aurora had the same issue....
Posted by: No Talent Ass Clowns | December 1, 2005 07:41 AM
Why would someone end up with over 100 more artifacts than they started with after the market crash:?
Posted by: inquiring minds | December 1, 2005 03:30 PM
inquiring minds:
No one's artefacts were changed on Black Friday. If someone has 100 more now, its because they built them not because of any effects of the crash.

I Agree.. this targeted re-adjustment totally sucks. I dropped Rank from 600 to 1,400.. B$20 Billion gone. So, not very likely to invest any more clicks - let alone real money - in this 'game' if there is not a re-valuation of share value to match.
Posted by: Lars | December 3, 2005 01:07 AM
I lost 145 Billion on Black Friday, and my rank changed from the 700s to 70s. Hundreds of people must have been (financially) destroyed for that to happen.
