Attention: Massive Blog Update Ongoing; Transaction Fees

Many of you will have noticed the changes taking place on blogs in the system. Currently, Suburban Wolf is running an extensive script to convert URLs in the game without a trailing slash to an entry with that slash. This is also merging tens of thousands of duplicate listings in the system in the process. The end result will be a vastly reduced number of duplicate listings for the same blogs.

Many of you are concerned about your blog claims, which appear to be lost, and many additional blog listings appear to be inaccessible as a result. Don't lose heart. During this hours-long process, some blogs.php pages are inaccessible until the script has run completely. Your blogs and claims to them are still in the system, and you will see them reappear once this process is complete. Claims will move with merged entries in order to retain blog ownership during and after the transition.

The indexing spiders are currently not running in order to reduce the load on the database and BlogShares resources. Once the URL-slash activity has completed and the results verified, the spiders will resume their regular operations.

Thanks for your patience in this massive operation. You can check into the forum for updates from SubWolf as he has time. So far, progress has been substantial, and again, the end result will be a much cleaner, less redundant index of blogs. As of now, SW estimates another 1-2 hours of activity, with additional time as needed to verify and validate that the script performed as expected.

Update #1 You may notice that some blog statistics, such as valuation and share holdings, will revert back to their levels of last night. SubWolf is rolling back to last night's update to ensure that everything has gone as expected. The site may be down from time to time as fixes take place.

Update #2 SubWolf's scripts are still running. It is a massive project, affecting hundreds of thousands of listings. So far, it appears to be exceptionally successful. Also: Transaction fees for ideas transactions on the Ideas Market are now in effect. See this thread for more info.

I am sure I am not alone in being in awe of what you guys do to keep the game going. Many thanks.

AJ

Does the script logic also look for URLs ending in (example:) index.htm, index.html, index.php, etc and merge them into a simple / ?

Skerdog--not currently, this one is looking primarily for blogs ending in the most common TLDs such as .com and .uk, for example, and finding those in the system which currently lack a trailing / . SubWolf has mentioned that he wants to set up a script to do just what you mention, but that is not taking place during this run, which has turned out to be a much bigger project than planned, mostly due to the sheer time involved in handling the merges.

Allan--Very much appreciated. It is a lot of work behind the scenes keeping things going, and even more so for SubWolf, C, and Jay who handle all the nasty coding details. Thanks for your kind words!

Shoulda known I wouldn't be the only one to think of that. :) Thanks for the quick response and please add my thanks to you guys "behind the scenes" for all you do. I know it's a (mostly) thankless job.

Now if we could just convince you guys to re-think these Ideas fees... ;)

I am sure the transaction fees is going to upped the ideas market to another level.
Less people buying Ideas, more ideas leftover for me! :)

Thanks to Jay, C, Rob, Dave, Allan Dean, Raymond, and the whole team who make this site going and thanks for giving me a chance to do some little work.

I am too late in saying thanks, should have said it at the time of Thanksgiving.. but was busy with work and I am sorry for that :(

Please let the Transaction Fee for Idea purchase stay, it would really discourage some section of people.

Brave Sir Robin requests that all trailing slashes cease following him immediately! Run away, run away brave Sir Robin!

Once this is resolved, will I be able to remove the items from my portfolio that were re-assigned? Currently I can't delete them.

There hasn't been an update in a couple of days. How are things going?

I was able to remove the "old" items just fine a few days ago. Make sure you check the box next to the share then click "remove" (not delete)

Gee that crap looks familiar... ;)

Could SOMEONE who is a member please do whatever to index my blog? It's there, but the Spider seems to be ignoring it. Muchos gracias.
