Blog Of The Week: Daily Kos

One of the youngest blogs in the Index! In 2002, Markos Moulitsas founded the political site Daily Kos, with a liberal bent and frequent posts. Added to the index in March 2003 (the first months!), the valuation has seen a few spikes up and down over the past few years, currently sitting at a lower point, but by no means losing traffic or contributors. The site is supported through advertising and ad-free subscriptions if desired.

If you have a political eye, this is one to trade. Bear in mind the share count is a little high right now, lets see if we can fix that eh. In other news, in the last week 90,000 new blogs were added to the index, but 280,000 pings to parse new content were received – thats one ping every 2 seconds! We like these numbers, and theres more to come.

Blog Of The Week: Binary Moon

Added to the index in April 2005, Binary Moon is the work of Ben Gillbanks, a blogger and software developer, writing games since early 2000, which he promotes on his sister site Binary Sun. Interestingly enough, Ben is one year younger than yours truly, but then hes still going strong in the online world. The valuation of this blog continues to rise, as seems to be a growing trend in quite a few Top 100 blogs these days.

In other news, earlier this morning maintenance was performed to remove a few years worth of old entries, which went perfectly – we’re now about 30,000,000 rows and 3.5Gb of space lighter. Over the next week or so we’ll look at more gently removing additional tracking data to save more space, and look for ways to boost site speed and efficiency. Stay tuned.
